Kawakawa sits at the junction where State Highway 1 meets the road into the Bay of Islands, about 15 minutes from Paihia and just under an hour north of Whangarei. It's best known for the Hundertwasser Toilets and the Bay of Islands Vintage Railway, but day to day it's a working town with Bay of Islands College, shops and services. Neighbouring Moerewa, a few minutes west, is included on this page. Section prices here are generally more accessible than in Paihia or Kerikeri, which makes the area worth a look for buyers who want Bay of Islands access without Bay of Islands pricing.
