Kaitaia is the northernmost town of any size in New Zealand and the administrative centre for the Far North's upper half. 4hr 30min from Auckland, 1hr 30min from Kerikeri. The section market here is the most affordable in Northland — expect to pay a fraction of Kerikeri or Whangarei for a comparable residential lot. The tradeoff is distance from everything: services are thinner, the commute to secondary cities is long, and the economy is small. Kaitaia itself has hospital, college, supermarkets, and a weekly market. The surrounding Aupouri Peninsula offers large rural blocks heading towards Cape Reinga. Warmest winter climate in the country. TODO(matt): add context — who actually buys here and why; honest caveats.
